Google launches news aggregate app, Currents
While Flipboard hopped from the iPad to the iPhone, earlier this week, Google launched its own news aggregator app, Currents. As mentioned in Google's blog post, the app works on Android devices, the iPhone and the iPad and lets you explore online magazines and other content. Google has partnered up with over 150 publishers to bring content to mobile devices. The app will bring full length articles from more than 180 editions. You can navigate between words, pictures and video even if you're offline.
As you will see on the Google blog, the biggest complaint for Google Currents (and this is a pretty big complaint), is that it is not available outside the U.S, yet. However, for when it does become available, to use the app, you have to download the app and choose which publications you want to subscribe to, for free. You can also add RSS, video and photo feeds, public Google+ streams and Google Reader subscriptions you’re already following. Additionally, you can use the trending tab to to discover related content that matches your interest.
Google has also launched a program for 'the little guys' like small news organizations and non-profit organizations, which will help them create digital publications for Google Currents. Currents is integrated into Google+, so users can share articles and videos with their Circles. The app is available from the Android Market and the iOS App Store, just not for India yet
