World's thinnest Ultrabook, the Aspire S5

Acer has launched Ultrabooks in the past, but this time around at CES; the brand unveiled, what they refer to as the world’s thinnest Ultrabook, the Aspire S5. The highlighted feature of this new Ultrabook is that it measures only 15 mm at the maximal point and weighs less than 1.35 kg. It features a 13.3-inch


LCD and has the unique Acer Green Instant On technology for fast boot and resume. Apart from this, it includes the Acer Always Connect feature, which allows users to manage their multimedia and data on all their devices anytime, anywhere — even on sleep mode.

Going a bit deeper into the features, the Acer Green Instant On provides instant-resume functionality (in 1.5 seconds) and ensures battery life that lasts several weeks, according to the announcement. As for the Acer Always Connect feature, the Aspire S5 can be woken up from a remote device like a smartphone. Acer claims that the magnesium-aluminium alloy cover and palmrest provide a slimmer and sturdier form, while the metallic brushed detail presents subtle elegance.


The Aspire S5 is Acer's first Ultrabook to feature the MagicFlip I/O port panel that is concealed just below the hinge. In this panel, the HDMI, USB 3.0 and 20 Gbps Thunderbolt ports are located.

Acer states that the Aspire S5 will be available from the second quarter of 2012. No word on the pricing is available at the moment.
